What’s more the lead free material is made from biodegradable materials, so it’s safe to dispose of.

The most common question we get is “well if it’s not lead, how does it protect you from X-Rays?”
The answer: Flow’s Lead-free aprons are made of a lightweight, flexible and recyclable material using a mixture of two attenuating elements, antimony and bismuth. Research has shown this composite material protects just like lead, but it’s recyclable and also 28% lighter weight than traditional lead.
That means your staff will have an easier time handling your aprons and your patients won’t object to
a heavy apron being draped over them.
MAKING SURE YOUR APRONS LIVE A LONG LIFE
We are often asked how long should an apron last? Well the answer is it’s up to you. Proper care and handling will help assure you many years of use. It’s essential that Aprons are not folded or hung loosely. Flow aprons come with hanging straps and an optional apron hanger is available too. Try to hang your aprons so they hang flat. Repeatedly folding Aprons can cause cracks to occur over time in the protective material. You can’t see the material, so the only way to check is to take your apron to a local hospital and ask them to take an X-Ray or use a Fluoroscope. We recommend you do this once a year with all your aprons.
PROTECTION FOR ALL SITUATIONS
Aprons are not a “once size fits all” product. For example you don’t want a thyroid collar on an apron being worn during a panoramic X-Ray. The collar could get in the way of the X-Ray. On the opposite extreme the thyroid in children is very sensitive to X-Rays so a thyroid collar should always be used when taking intra oral x-rays of children.
